Reminiscene
Preserving the Past for the Future
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Reminiscene a registered company?
No. Reminiscene is simply the name given to this website which is used to display a privately owned collection of vintage photographs and postcards.
I think I have found my ancestor’s photograph or an item belonging to him/her on your site. How do I claim the item?
You should contact us by email giving us as much information as possible about your ancestor to enable us to verify your claim. If we cannot verify your claim from the information you provide, we reserve the right to ask you to provide documentary information, e.g. photocopies of original Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates.
Now that you have verified my claim, do I have to pay for the photograph or ephemera item?
We ask only that you reimburse us the price we have paid for the item and the cost of sending it to you. We will notify you of the cost and postage options when we have verified your claim. In most cases, the cost of a single photograph is unlikely to exceed two or three pounds plus postage costs. We do not make any profit. Money received from claimants helps to expand our collection in the hope that we can pass more photographs to proven descendants.
What happens next?
Once we have verified your claim and have received your payment, we will email you to tell you when the item has been posted to you. We prefer to use the Royal Mail First Class Recorded Signed For service as this offers greater security than the ordinary First or Second Class services. However, it is for you to decide which service you wish us to use.
Will you use the photograph or item I have claimed as one of your success stories?
Wherever possible, we like to publish a success story when we have succeeded in passing a photograph to a proven descendant. However, we will consult you about this. If you agree that we can publish a success story, we will not name you but will, instead, refer to you by your relationship to your ancestor (e.g. “We were contacted by John Smith’s great nephew…”). We do not include any personal information about living persons unless we have permission to do so.
How do I contact you about a matter which is unrelated to a photograph on Reminiscene?
Contact us by email.
Will you place a link to my website on Reminiscene?
We link only to websites which relate to vintage photographs and vintage postcards, or to well established family and local history resource websites. We will not consider a reciprocal link request from you unless a link to Reminiscene is already in place on your website. If your website meets our criteria and you wish us to set up a link to your site, please email us giving a link to the page on your website which bears a link to Reminiscene.
